YOUTH WORK  - REPORT FROM OUR YOUTH WORKER, Paula Matthew

I've now been in this post for about 6 months and have been thoroughly enjoying it! We had a busy time over the summer holidays with our 'Mission Rescue' Holiday club and the Romania trip and it's now back to term time....

Hub and Compass started up again at the beginning of term - at Compass we're working through Scripture Union books, playing team games and doing arts and crafts each week. Hub is also going well with football/badminton/table tennis being played and lots of room to chat and spend time with others in the village.

If anyone would like to come along on a Tuesday evening they'd be more than welcome (Compass is 6-7.15pm for primary 2-7 and Hub is from 7.30-9pm for secondary ages and costs 50p per session).

I've also started up another youth evening on a Thursday night called 'UNION' for p7 to s3 from 6.30 till 8.30pm. Each week there are different activities on and this term so far we've had:
'girls night' where we painted nails, had fruit juice cocktails and played 'just dance
'boys night' where there was football, pizza and car racing games
'masterchef' where we made our own pizzas
    a kickboxing lesson
    a 'big movie' night
     and a karaoke night.
UNION shall be continuing throughout term time so look out for the next programme after the October holidays!

We've started up Sunday club again after the summer holiday and everyone is feeling rejuvenated after the break!

I'm also continuing to work with Auchtergaven Primary School- I have Tuesday lunchtime sessions for p6-7 where we do Scripture Union related games/activities/crafts. I shall also be taking assembly once a month as well as helping out at the end of term services.

If anyone has any questions or suggestions, please feel free to chat to me or otherwise leave a note in my 'suggestion box' in the Hub.
Thank you, Paula

MOROCCO 2010

THANK YOU!

In July, some of the youth from the Hub went on a life-changing trip to Morocco on their World Challenge expedition. After having the impossible task of raising almost £15,000 between the group, it soon paid off. Everyone had a fantastic time and it really was a once in a life-time opportunity. The group went over to help renovate a school; however the school was in a fairly reasonable condition so the group decided to paint a local Mosque instead where the people in the community gathered every day. It sounds like an easy job, but in an African heat wave, the group can assure us that it wasn't as easy as it sounds.

After a few days of helping out in the village with the Mosque, all of the local people regarded the group as an inspiration and soon there was a clear bond between the group and the locals. After a tearful goodbye, the team then set out to do trekking through the Atlas Mountains for a couple of days and one night they even camped higher than the peak of Ben Nevis. The trek was so difficult one of the group members fainted and had to be carried to safety!

The last few days consisted of exploring Marrakech and relaxing from their hard-work helping out in the local village.

The group would like to once again take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped with fundraising; those who donated goods for the local children; and those who attended our information evening explaining about the trip.
