1ST BANKFOOT BOYS BRIGADE

The company has had a good year and the boys have enjoyed a measure of success in the  battalion competitions.

The first to note is that the Junior section boys won first prize in the Figure Marching competition, beating of four other companies to win the trophy. A lot of praise should go to the boys for all the work and effort they put in which was shown in the display they gave. In the company section scripture search, two boys from Bankfoot, Ryan Jenkins and Sam Wightman, received third equal prize in the P7 section of this, out of a total of 27 other boys.

Our final night was held on Friday the 21 May. We had a great turnout from parents and family and members of the church and it was great to see everyone. We started out with a relaxed barbecue. While it was warming up a surprisingly competitive game of rounders was organised between the parents and the kids. After that the junior and company section demonstrated their figure marching and drill to the parents and we then retired to the church for the reports of the year and the prize giving. The 2009/10 session has now drawn to a close.

A sincere word thanks goes to all who have helped the company over the last year and the parents that have assisted us in organising the various events in which the boys took part. We look forward to seeing everyone back next year. The first night back is on Friday Friday 27th August.
IAN SMITH, ACTING CAPTAIN

______________________________________________________________________________________________

The Boys Brigade meets on a Friday night in the church and this year our numbers are reasonably healthy, although we are always looking to grow our group. The Company Section (boys from P7 and up) has 16 boys, the Junior Section (P4 to P6) has 11 boys and the Anchors (P1 to P3) has 6 attendees. The boys come from all the villages in the area, with boys from Bankfoot, (and travelling from) Murthly, Stanley, Luncarty and as far as Spittalfield.

A typical night involves a variety of activities: games, including football, unihoc, basketball, table tennis, badminton, dodge ball; crafts for the anchor boys; organisation of events, such as sponsored bike rides; readings and discussions; drill and marching and prayer; plus many more.

Trips, camps and events are organised throughout the year either as a company on our own, or combining with other companies within the Perth and Kinross Battalion. Also all sections take part in events competing against the other companies within the district in disciplines diverse as football, chess, volleyball, bible quiz, drill and orienteering.

As an example of some of the other events we do, the Junior section has joined forces this year with Blairgowrie Company to organise a weekend camp for the boys in March, which the boys always enjoy, and the Company section went to Livingston karting as a trip in the last session.

We are always looking for volunteers to help run any of the sections within the company. If you are interested or feel you can provide something to the running of the boys brigade please drop by on a Friday night or contact us on the number below.

As already stated we are always looking for more boys to come and join us. You can drop by on a Friday at the following times:
        Anchor Section         6:00 to 7:00
        Junior Section           6:15 to 7:30
        Company Section      7:30 to 9:30.
Or alternatively contact Ian Smith, Acting Captain, on 01738 827865.
